Yesterday, during an afternoon stroll and break from work, I happened upon the new store United By Blue on 2nd street in Old City. It's actually a coffee shop and boutique clothier/bag/accessories store. Unfortunately I had already purchased my mid-afternoon brew, but I did check the place out.
For every item sold, one pound of trash is removed from oceans and waterways by UBB. You can volunteer at any time and they provide a great deal of things to get you on your way: "...bags, bamboo gloves, shovels, grabbers, water, coffee and a free breakfast or lunch. You just need to show up in long pants and old closed toed shoes." This makes their handlebar bag, $78, seem a lot more appetizing.
I suggest checking the space out, it's really spacious, well lit, solid and rustic looking. The staircase leading to the second floor is beautiful. I'm going to head over and try the coffee today. Oh, and if you still aren't convinced, THEY HAVE CRONUTS.
That's a really interesting concept, every little helps. Do you think you'd have a go at helping?
