Fall 2018 #Roundup

Haven't made one of these in awhile, but also haven't been buying much for a year. I put all my pennies into the new Triumph Bonneville, which has left little in the way for goodies.  I CANNOT COMPLAIN, the new ride is amazing. But, the weather is changing and the wishlist is growing, so enjoy.  I've been getting into some new music and a lot of mountain biking <3

Beer Review (59): Harpoon | Flannel Friday Amber Ale

BreweryHarpoon Brewery Beer: Amber Ale| Beer Advocate Score: 3.82/5 Abv: 5.7%

I'm usually not a huge fan of Amber Ale's - there's something about a caramel and malt in a beer that doesn't appeal to me much. This beer on the other hand was a gentle step into fall, with familiar seasonal flavors, like the aforementioned, but actually tasty this time! Maple syrup, crispy leaves, and a sticky mug of this will get you in the spirit.

Hello, Spring! Missed you, boo

Spring selections for shopping, exercising, and gardening

It's technically the third day of Spring and it's really, actually, swears to god, starting to feel like it!  The bike ride into work this morning was divine!  My little seedlings are popping up and growing along the windowsill and the saison and IPAs are flowing.  Warmer weather means a ton of time spent in the garden and also, suddenly, the drive to work on that Summer-bod (insert fancy new workout gear justification).  Here are a couple of my favorite things this season!  Enjoy

Holiday Gift Guide #2

Keeping it classic with this guide.  Retro hats, helmets, socks and shoes.  This Christmas, get something for someone that'll never die with the trend of the day.  And if you're looking for a Christmas-y craft to get you into the spirit of the season, try making your very own Pomander!  I hold these near and dear to my heart ever since my grandmother used to sit us down to make them at the kitchen table every winter.

Beat the Heat #Roundup

This summer has already been a doozy. It's been too hot to cook and I barely have any interest in eating food other than smoothies, you know? Here are a couple things to get you through the summer heat waves: Kiehl's Bodywash - Yes, you will be taking around 5 showers a day so enjoy them! Rocket Pop Molds - Turn that blended smoothie into a rocket shaped snack! I'd add a bit of protein powder and some chia seeds. Voila - dinner! Ye Olde Kiddie Pool - That's right folks, I put a kiddie pool on the list. Good for soaking your feet and a nice place for your pup to cool off. Summer Ale - Deschutes Brewery Summer Ale to savor. A smash hit this season! Sunglasses: Persols - for the folks that don't like to squint and have a little bit of scratch laying around. Wear Sunscreen - Alba's sunscreen is super gentle on the skin and will keep you pale all summer long! J.A.W.N. - What up Philly?! Yeah that's right, Juicy Ale With Nugget by Neshaminy Creek is a must. Grab yo'self some of them jawns. Ally Canoe - Yeah, it folds up! Just because you live in a tiny apartment doesn't mean that you should limit your adventures! Sawyer Paddles - Canoe that baby in style with the bent handle wooden Sawyer paddles. Linen Shorts - Taylor Stitch presents the sea washed indigo linen shorts. B r e e z y.

5 Beers for Spring and Summer You Will Love

5 Beers for the Spring and Summer; 5 Beers for Spring and Summer You Will Love;As Spring rolls through and turns into Summer, the beer selections get lighter, zestier, hoppier and more delicious. 1. St. Bernardus Tripel - Brouwerij St. Bernardus NV This classic Belgian Tripel is rated 95 by Beer Advocate and hailed as a favorite by many. You really can't beat a beer brewed by monks for a couple of hundred years. They are doing something right for sure. Let it breathe for a minute and the bready yeast notes come out. Then the spice and citrus flavors will hit you. Delicious. 2. Bell's Oberon Ale - Bell's Brewery, Inc. Gotta say this one is pretty hoppy. A wheat beer with a lot of punch, perfect for cutting through the heat and cooling you off after a long bike ride to the...er...pub. Rated 86 by Beer Advocate and is another good beer by Bell's. 3. Sneak Attack Saison - 21st Amendment Brewery Sweet with a subtle spiciness that hits right after the first swallow. Pour a light yellow and is a general good beer to start the saison season off with. Packable, comes in a can, and perfect for a camping trip. 4. Grapefruit Sculpin IPA - Ballast Point Brewing Company Y'all know the Sculpin IPA is one of the best IPAs on the market and by far my favorite. Beer advocate agrees and give is an astonishing 98 rating! How could the Sculpin IPA get any better you ask? Well just give it a touch of grapefruit flavor and you can die happy. 5. Hennepin (Farmhouse Saison) - Brewery Ommegang Pair with a big plate of cheese and unbutton your pants a lil' bit. This one is gonna be a wild ride for your taste buds. The perfect example of a Farmhouse Saison. Beer advocate rates it in at 93. This is a seriously sophisticated saison. Spiced just right. Smooth, crispy and it comes in a fancy big bottle too.

Mornings are still crisp here in Philadelphia.  Despite the weather, trees are now in full bloom and my allergies are acting up!  It's Spring for sure.  New adventures await and more places to explore on the horizon.  Though it may be too early for me to graduate from the foam surfboard, I still have my eyes on the Pinwheel.  Hard to justify, especially living in a landlocked state, but the "shore" as we say, is not too far away.  Anyway, here are a couple of things that would be perfect for a weekend getaway to the beach (of course with your dog in tow).  Make a campfire.  Have a beer (or two).  I command you.

How to Dress Like a Peaky Blinder

How to Dress Like a Peaky Blinder
Set in post-WWI Birmingham, England, Peaky Blinders is a gritty gangster drama.  If it doesn't sound like your kind of genre, you can watch/listen for the epic soundtrack alone.  Nick Cave and the Bad Seed's, "Right Red Hand" starts playing and you know it's gonna be crazy.  Then we have PJ Harvey, The Arctic Monkeys, The White Stripes, The Kills, Tom Waits and more all setting the tone and capturing the essence of the story perfectly.  Lots of great story lines, deep, dark and all carried along by a thumping soundtrack.

Cillian Murphy is the lead character playing (masterfully might I add) Mr. Thomas Shelby.  Its an all-star cast with a few unknowns tossed in.  Look for Tom Hardy in the second season!

Winter Warmer #RoundUp

Winter Warmer #RoundUp

A great winter ensemble starts with the most reliable outerwear.  That's why I've put together a #RoundUp with some of the highest quality gear on the market to keep you warm and dry through what the
Old Farmer's Almanac is forecasting--another long, cold, and snowy winter.

The key is to start with a jacket that you can be sure will keep your core warm and snug.  Fjallraven makes it easy with their array of winter jackets that have been tested in some of the harshest environments.  Yep, and their pretty good looking pieces too.

Apart from the jacket, the second most important part of the ensemble is definitely what goes on the feet.  Smart wool socks and a solid pair of waterproof boots.  You just can't skimp on this part.  Get something reliable with classic styling and a good guarantee.  This is something you can spend a lot on now and keep forever.
Try the LL Bean boots, they're timeless and indestructible.

1. Fjallraven - Greenland No.1 Down Jacket
2. Harris Tweed - Men's Gloves
3. Fjallraven - Yupik Parka
4. Filson - Wool Seattle Shirt
7. Fjallraven - Viso Beanie
8. Outlier - M-Back Climbers
