Beer Review (53): Imperial IPA by New Belgium Brewing Company

Beer Review (53): Imperial IPA by New Belgium Brewing Company

BreweryNew Belgium Brewing Beer: Amber Ale | Beer Advocate Score: 85 Abv: 8.5%

Wooooheeee this is a strong Imperial IPA.  It was perfect for the Christmas season, a nice and citrus-y flavor to round off a few perfect meals.  This is the second beer I've had from New Belgium and very tasty.  Colorado has its share of great breweries and I will definitely add this to my list of go-to IPAs.  But man, it's a kick of alcohol at 8.5%.

  1. When we were living in Japan, the gas station on the Yokota Air Base would get a shipment of beer from the States every few months. The IPAs were always the first to fly off the shelf. So what did we do when a shipment arrived? Buy all of the IPAs of course! One of which was this beer, which we found most effective given its 8.5% ABV (almost all Japanese beer falls between 3-5%). Anyhow, I'd go so far as to say it's alright. Been drinking a lot of Betty from Hangar 24 lately, as well as Swamis from Pizza Port. Two beers you should definitely try if you can find them.
