Beer Review (33): Firestone Pivo Pils

BreweryFirestone Walker Brewing Co. | Beer: German Pils | Beer Advocate Score: 88 Abv: 5.3%

A refreshingly nontraditional German pilsner from Firestone Walker Brewing Company. A pils with just enough hoppy bite to confuse the senses and everything you thought you knew a pilsner could be.  For me, I like a light and crisp pilsner on a hot summer day.  This hoppier version was unlike anything I'd tasted before and was a welcomed change.  I highly suggest giving it a try next time you see it on the shelf!

Beer Review (32): Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company Trauger Pilsner

Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company Trauger Pilsner

Brewery: Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company Beer: German Pilsner | Beer Advocate Score: 84 Abv: 4.8%

It's absolutely true that World Cup Soccer combined with any beer is a recipe for a great afternoon.  It’s a theory I proved four years ago and carried over into this year’s competition.  So when I found myself thirsty and in center city this weekend I found it only natural to seek out three things: A/C, TV, and an adult beverage.  Neshaminy Creek doesn't usually rank too high on my list of local (Pennsylvania) breweries since having a lackluster IPA last year, but I thought to give them another go.  The traditional German Pilsner was smooth, crisp, fruity and memorable.

Two Pennsylvanian Pilsners

 Victory Prima Pils Beer

Troegs Sunshine Pils Beer

If I had to pick only between the two, Victory's Prima Pils would prevail.  Troeg's Sunshine Pils completely disappointed me.  Very bland taste and a slightly white and yellow body color, Troegs really left you wanting more.  The Prima Pils on the other hand was a surprisingly hoppy brew made in the Pilsner fashion--history here.  Try the Prima Pils with a big hunk of meat!
