Thanksgiving Weekend Photos

I'm sitting here sifting through pictures from last weekend taken in north east Pennsylvania.  Despite the sort of treacherous drive in on Wednesday evening (and the car sliding down the hill backwards), the snow was absolutely beautiful.  We strolled around back roads and checked to see if the lake was freezing up.  The annual Christmas tree shopping was a success too.

Lots of good food and great company.  Muffin loved being out in the snow and I did too!  I hope everyone enjoyed the holiday!

A stroll outside during a frigid Thursday can awaken your senses.  The temperature was hovering around 35 degrees F and a thin blanket of snow was just beginning to melt around lunch time.  Muffin could barely contain herself outside.  Brush and scrubby fields were no match for her and she probably would have eaten all of the snow if I let her stay outside all day.  The lakes are just beginning to freeze and the plow trucks are rearin' at the gates.  Winter is here, people, and I'm not about to complain!

100 Different Beers in One Year

Untappd App

vwalker | Untappd Beer List

Never missing an opportunity to challenge myself in new ways, I set out on January 3rd 2013 to accomplish two things.  The first, because health is wealth, I’ve set out to do at least one proper unassisted pull-up.  So far?  I’m almost there, thanks to CrossFit.

The second, you guess it, is to consume 100 different beers in one year.  Now, I know this sounds crazy and very counterproductive towards my initial goal, but it’s been going pretty well so far.  I've even managed to highlight a few brews here on the blog, see #BeerReviews and #Beer.  As you can see, I clock in the unique beers using Untappd and so far have tallied 69!  Also, I stopped clocking the total amount of beers sometime during the Summer months.  I can’t have you get the wrong impression of me. Of course, this is for educational purposes only.  I'm happy to report that I've learned a lot about varieties of beers, hops, brew methods and so on.

Bring on the holiday season, I have some more learning to do!  Happy Thanksgiving!

My love for Stollen bread

Stollen is a traditional German cake, usually eaten during the Christmas season, when it is called Weihnachtsstollen or Christstollen.

Stollen Bread is my new favorite holiday treat.  Here's an old picture of a freshly dusted loaf from early December.  I sort of like the way it is almost too dark but you can still see the fine textures on the side.  Oh, and that enormous plate of cookies in the background.  It seems I always post about beer and snacks, I swear I have a vegetable now and then.
