Best Made?

First, pardon my French, but sometimes complete craziness deserves some profanity here and there.   Every now and then I click open on one of those product campaigns that clog up my email.  I seriously keep meaning to taper the list down, but I couldn't help but click on Best Made this week and take a peek.  After all, I have promoted some of their stuff in the past.

For $398 dollars you can get your very own Best Made x Seil Marschall bag.  People, that's nearly $400 for a bag that looks like it can barely fit lunch and a jacket.  The straps are made out of canvas.  They are paper thin.  I am ranting. What warrants such a crazy price tag?  Nostalgia?  I know they are handmade and that takes a lot of skill and know-how, but really, are they that nice looking?  Are they really comfortable?  Tell me how this bags functionality can outperform cheaper, bags with highly reputable brand names. Comfort and quality can be had for half that amount of money. For craftsmanship and brand reputation, try Filson.  Save $100 dollars or more and have a bonus guarantee.  I'll even go further and suggest the Topo Designs Klettersack.  The utilitarian design and durability is phenomenal and its half the price of what Best Made is putting on the shelf.  They have a wonderful guarantee also. I'm just sick and tired of seeing these overpriced, vintage looking, fad products sweeping and clogging up my news feeds.  Yes, I know, I can unsubscribe from these things anytime.  Rant over, I promise.

Edit:  I found the Seil Marschall bag online for 349,00 Euros. I see BM is bringing it to the US market at a cheaper rate, but still...

  1. I was going to say Topo, they freaking rock. Plus I don't see their designs as being nostalgic or "vintage inspired" in a way over than taking key elements of what worked in the past and using it. Same way as toe bumpers work on sneakers, if it works then use it. I agree though, it's daft. You should look on End menswear website, they have good quality nicely designed stuff but then they have the insanely priced over designed stuff.

So the question is, who is going to buy one of these?
