Beer Review (50): Anderson Valley Brewing Company - Fall Hornin'

Brewery: Anderson Valley Brewing Company Beer: Pumpkin Ale | Beer Advocate Score: 82 Abv: 6.0% It's officially Fall here in Philadelphia and we've already been to the bottom of a quite a few pumpkin beers. This is a new variety I've never had before. Anderson Valley Brewing Company calls Boonville, CA home and has a wide range of offerings that hit shelves nationwide. This pumpkin beer had all the makings of a delicious beer, but seemed to miss the mark. Maybe it's because I've been spoiled by this amazing one. It has a decent BA score, so let me know what you think of it!

Beer Review (38): Philadelphia Brewing Co. Kenz O'Lantern

Philadelphia Brewing Co. Kenz o'Lantern

BreweryPhiladelphia Brewing Co. Beer: Pumpkin Ale | Beer Advocate Score: 73 Abv: 4.5%

A darker, hazier beer than expected when I poured it into my pint glass at the Corner Foodery on Sansom Street.  Lots of ginger and spice flavors, a palate-pleaser for all pumpkin beer lovers.  This one surprised me because I tend to gravitate away from PBC beers.  I would have it again and loved the design on the bottle.  Brewed in the Kensington area of Philly, they coined a nice name for this one, the Kenz O'Lantern.  Very cool.

Beer Review (36 & 37): Stoudts Pumpkinfest & Uinta Punk'n

(1) BreweryStoudts Brewing Co. Beer: Pumpkin Lager | Beer Advocate Score: 80 Abv: 4.5%

Stoudts Brewing Company is a Pennsylvania brewery located in Adamstown.  They have a pretty solid selection of beers and I cannot remember disliking any one in particular.  The Pumpkin Lager is new to their lineup and a fairly nice beer.  I enjoyed it very much, but wasn't overly impressed. There are just bigger pumpkin players out there.  I must be spoiled by the Elysian Night Owl, my favorite so far.

(2) BreweryUinta Brewing | Beer: Pumpkin Ale | Beer Advocate Score: 76 Abv: 5.0%

I think this was my first Uinta beer, ever!  It's not a local brewery and calls SLC, Utah home.  I'd drink it again, but again, not blown away by sweetness or spice--not much there.  Anyone out there have a different opinion on this one?

There are many, many more pumpkin beers to share on here!  I've been busy!  Do you have a favorite pumpkin variety?

Beer Review (18): Blue Point Brewing Co. Pumpkin Ale

Blue Point Brewing Co. Pumpkin Ale

Brewery: Blue Point Brewing Company Beer: Pumpkin Ale | Beer Advocate Score: 77 Abv: 6.0%

This dark-amber pumpkin ale spelled fragrant and spicy immediately after cracking it open.  The smell was wondrous and lovely, but the taste...not that memorable.  The spice to pumpkin ratio seemed lacking and the body felt weak and boring.  Not one of my favorite pumpkin beers this season, but not one to skip altogether.  The complexity of the spice notes got me through the brew, but in the event I had the option to go for round two, I most likely would've picked something else.

Beer Review (17): Elysian Night Owl Pumpkin Ale

Brewery: Elysian Brewing Company | Beer: Pumpkin Ale | Beer Advocate Score: 84 Abv: 5.9%

Heck yes, it's October!  It's time to drink pumpkin everything!

This was my first dabble into the PNW Elysian Brewing Company.   There's some pretty steep competition out there for the best pumpkin brew, but I have to hand it to Elysian and thank them for this season's best pumpkin beer, hands down.  Peanut Butter Coast wrote a nice post about some other great seasonal varieties by Elysian that I have yet to try.

The ale is very fragrant and spicy, pouring smooth into the pub glass.  The deep amber liquid was sweet and very pumpkin-and-spice-balanced.  Nice mouth feel and crisp finish.  Don't leave the store without a six-pack.  Closest competition out there is Southern Tier's Pumking-another great one.

Beer Review (2): Saranac Pumpkin Ale

Brewery: Saranac   |  Beer:  Pumpkin Ale
Beer Advocate Review Average (rAvg): No Rating as of 8/31/12

Well, Beer Advocate is, I supppose,  not advocating the Saranac Pumpkin Ale yet.  This one has a nice light amber color and smells very fragrant right as you pop the top off.  I'm a sucker for pumpkin-flavored beer and treats, so right away I was excited.  The spices include cloves, ginger, vanilla, allspice and cinnamon.  The essentials for creating a fragrantly fall-like master-yummy.  The taste is sweet and refreshing with just enough spices to mesmerize your tongue after every sip.  I highly suggest giving this one a try, but maybe after you quench your thirst with a Smuttynose Pumpkin brew, one of my favorites and rated decently.  Saranac suggests pairing this beer with fowl and game birds.  Get your Elmer Fudd cap!  Bottoms Up!

All beer suggestions are welcomed!
